Friday, April 29, 2016

Stephanie Rosa, ’15, a Childhood Inclusive Education major with a concentration in Social Studies, was recently featured in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services blog.

Ms. Rosa is a first year, fourth grade special education teacher at the Major George Welch Elementary School in Dover, Del. The school she teaches at is located on a military base, so her students are continuously moving to different bases with their family members who serve the country. Rosa speaks about her experience with her students on the blog.

Rosa talks about how she likes to be the comfort zone for her students where they are free to express themselves and set goals for the future.

“I love when each student walks in and sees me and my smile and can relax, feel comfortable, and have a stable environment,” says Rosa. “It is an amazing feeling when they smile and tell me about their future goals and new adventures.”

Rosa recently received a Special Education Pre-service Program Improvement Grant which will provide her with the funds she needs to take programs that will further her career in Special Education. The programs will provide her with proper training to assist young children with disabilities and their learning processes.
