Saxophonist Bobby Militello to give master class

Jazz saxophonist Bobby Militello

Renowned jazz saxophonist Bobby Militello, a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet and the Maynard Ferguson Band in a distinguished career spanning 50 years, will give a master class on Monday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall.

The class will be held during a Fredonia Latin Jazz Ensemble rehearsal, and is free and open to the public.

Mr. Militello played alto and flute with Brubeck for 30 years, was a featured soloist with the Ferguson ensemble and has performed with almost every major orchestra in the United States, Canada and Europe. The Buffalo native recorded his first solo album (“BobbyM Blow”) in 1982 for Motown Records and has released three CDs (“Heart and Soul,” “Easy to Love” and “Straight Ahead”).

Militello has formed various groups, whose styles range from fusion/funk to Bebop. In 2014, he founded the Bobby Militello Quartet that includes Fredonia Lecturer John Bacon on percussion and continues to perform regular throughout the Buffalo area.
