English faculty member invited to give Magliocco Lecture

Dr. Birger Vanwesenbeeck

Birger Vanwesenbeeck, associate professor of English, has been selected to give the Magliocco Lecture at Western Illinois University in March.

The prestigious annual lecture series, named after a professor emeritus of English at the university, has brought scholars to the Western Illinois campus for talks on literature, film, theory, or the state of the discipline, since 2006. Dr. Vanwesenbeeck will speak on March 7 at the university, located in Macomb, Ill.

In his lecture, Dr. Vanwesenbeeck will focus on the recent return to considerations of late style and “lateness” within contemporary literary criticism and art theory, a topic on which he has published extensively. During his visit he will also meet with English graduate students.
His previous national and international awards include a Scaliger fellowship from Leiden University, a stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities and a research fellowship from the Northeast Modern Language Association.

More information regarding the lecture series can be found online For more information, contact Dr. Vanwesenbeeck via email.
