Another Clouthier conference win and record

Another school and conference record for Fredonia senior Adam Clouthier (Conroe, Texas) highlighted the Blue Devils' third-place finish at Saturday's SUNYAC Swimming & Diving championship meet in the Burt Flickinger Center.

Two awards also went to senior diver Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y.) during a ceremony at the end of the meet. Carlson, who doubled off the men's springboard boards during the four-day meet, was named Male Diver of the Meet and won the James Fulton Award for athletic, academic, and lifetime achievement.

Clouthier, a graduate of Fairport High School in suburban Rochester, N.Y., touched out in 2:04.06 -- besting the previous conference record of Potsdam's Alexander Taylor. Taylor swam 2:05.48 in 2013, which Clouthier equaled during Saturday preliminaries. That also took down his own school record of 2:09.77 set in 2015 and shaved nearly nine seconds off his pre-meet seed time.

Clouthier was also the 100-yard breaststroke champ Friday in school and conference record time.

Other point-producing performances Saturday by Fredonia swimmers:

Jake Favret (Watertown, N.Y.), who was fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.91. He advanced to the final as the No. 8 seed with a preliminary time of 2:12.42.

Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.46. He was eighth coming out of preliminaries at 1:59.24.

Liam Jones (Buffalo, N.Y.) tied for sixth in the 100 freestyle in 47.61 seconds. He qualified at No. 8 with a preliminary time of 47.89 seconds.

Bill Bradley (Dunkirk, N.Y.) moved up to sixth in the 200 butterfly after being seeded eighth with a preliminary time 1:59.39. His finals time was 1:58.29.

Consolation finalists included Nathan Link (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 200 breaststroke after a preliminary time of 2:03.12. He finished 11th in 2:01.74. Also, Jonah Adeson (Queensbury, N.Y.) finished 15th in the 200 butterfly in 2:05.54. His qualifying time was 2:03.52. Ben Chatley (Sanborn, N.Y.) finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle -- essentially a mile in distance -- during the timed final Saturday afternoon. He covered the distance in 17:55.54.

The meet ended with a sixth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle as Favret, Lubanski, Bradley, and Graham Jones (Tonawanda, N.Y.) touched out in 3:14.02. The Blue Devils also earned two Lake Erie Cup points by finishing ahead of Buffalo State in the team standings.
