Dance students savor experiences at annual conference

Sixteen students from the Department of Theatre and Dance gained valuable experience, working with dancers from approximately 20 other dance programs, at the American College Dance Association’s annual conference held March 25 to 28 at Kent State University in Ohio.

The conference featured several adjudicated dance concerts arranged by participating schools which fostered the creative potential in dance students, honored multiple approaches to scholarly and creative research and activity and promoted excellence in choreography and performance to give presence and value to diversity in dance.

The students, under the supervision of Dance faculty Angelika Summerton and Paula Peters, included: Jacquelyne Ambrosio, Molly Carriero, Lauren Dewey-Wright, Emily Fox, Teresa Grosvenor, Jasmine Joyner, Ilana Lieberman, Jasmine Mattar, Samantha Mazzalonga, Nicole Smith, Vanessa Raffaele, Katie Sherry, Mercedes Smith, Lauren Supples, Christopher Victor and Hannah Wagner.

Performances of two adjudicated choreographies created by Ms. Peters and B.F.A. Dance senior Ilana Lieberman were among the conferences many highlights.

The conference, hosted annually at different universities, gives students the opportunity to train with teachers and students from around the country.

Attendance at the conference by Fredonia students was partially sponsored by the Office of Student Creative Activity and Research, and the Department of Theatre and Dance.
