Student Veterans Club raises funds for Western NY Heroes

Fredonia’s Student Veterans Club has raised $4,500 that will be donated to Western NY Heroes, a non-profit agency with the mission to provide veterans, members of the armed services and the widows and children of deceased veterans with access to essential services, financial assistance and resources that support their lives and sustain their dignity.

Kelsey Lowery, a senior Biology major and president of the Student
Veterans Club at Fredonia, presents a $4,500 check to Chris Kreiger,
president and co-founder of WNY Heroes, a veterans assistance organization.
Joining in the presentation are Lynn Magistrale, WNY Heroes program
coordinator, and two service dogs, Bubba, a pit bull (left) and Calvin,
      a golden doodle.

Western NY Heroes has a service dog program that enables organizations to donate $3,500 to sponsor a dog which is given to a deserving veteran in Western New York. The Fredonia club sponsored two events, a Veterans Day 5K, and Stars and Strikes, which raised more than enough money to reach the group’s goal of sponsoring a dog.

Kelsey Lowery, a senior Biology major from Buffalo and president of the club, will present a $4,500 check to Chris Kreiger, co-founder of WNY Heroes, on Tuesday, May 9, at 11:30 a.m. in the Veterans Lounge in Nixon Hall. Ms. Lowery handled all logistics for the 5K and Stars and Strikes.
