Feldman 4th in prelims

Brittany Feldman

Junior Brittany Feldman (Jamestown/Southwestern) finished in fourth place in the preliminaries of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. Her time of 55.29 seconds is a new school record, and was just .02 seconds out of third place. The top eight finishers move on to tomorrow's finals.

Wadeline Jonathas of U Mass Boston finished first in a time of 53.45, which ties the national record set back in 1988. Second place went to Jessie Reineck of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 55.18.

Chelsea Gilles of Greenville edged Feldman with a time of 55.27.

Feldman entered the meet ranked No. 12 in the women's 400 meters with her previous season-best time of 55.67 seconds coming May 12 at Allegheny College. She finished 11th in last year's NCAA's in the same event. Her best national placement came in the 400 at the 2016 indoor meet, where she finished seventh and earned All-America distinction.

The women's 400 finals are scheduled for a 1:10 p.m. start on Saturday.

Also running for Fredonia in Saturday's finals is Kyle Collins (Suffern/Suffern). He will compete in the men's 5,000 meters. Start time is slated for 3:25 p.m.
