‘Global Banquet’ to feature international food, student talent

Cuisine from distant shores, spiced with performances by Fredonia international students, will be in the spotlight at the Global Banquet, an annual event that raises money for international student scholarships, on Thursday, Nov. 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.

“The menu is representative of the students,” explained Jacob Czelusta, assistant director of International Student Services. “We will have Bulgogi, a Korean dish; a Japanese fried chicken, an Indian vegetable curry and rice, a variety of vegetable side dishes and salads.”

Appetizers include Chinese dumplings and Tabouli, a Middle Eastern salad. The food will be prepared by the Faculty Student Association and served buffet-style.

Several student dance troupes representing Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong will perform, as will a pianist from Hong Kong.
Gift baskets, each with a different theme, will be offered in a raffle.

“It’s a great event to support because you get a sense for the international student body on campus, through the food that they are familiar with, and you get to see how talented some of our students are,” Mr. Czelusta explained.

“And all proceeds benefit international student scholarships, which helps to keep our international student population robust.”

A limited number of tickets (100) for the event, open to students, faculty, staff and community members, are available at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center. Ticket prices are $2 for students, $15 for all others.
