Devils fall in SUNYAC Finals

Hallie Christopher sets Selena Brown during the SUNYAC Championship match Saturday evening.

The Fredonia women's volleyball team fell to Brockport in three sets on Saturday in the SUNYAC Finals (25-16, 26-24, 25-16).

"We played Brockport earlier this year so we knew how good of a team they were," Head Coach Geoff Braun said. "They're very physical, they have a great offense. We spent a lot of time game planning but sometimes it doesn't go your way. I give a lot of credit to Brockport: they played really, really well."

Emma Falk (York, N.Y.) and Kristen Stanek (Hamburg) led the offense with nine kills apiece. Kailey Falk (York, N.Y.) added six.

"At the beginning of the season we learned that going into each set you have to be ready for anything thrown at you," Kailey Falk said. "But sometimes another team gets rolling and it's hard to stop them. That's what happened tonight, because Brockport is so good at throwing things at you that you haven't seen before."

Hallie Christopher (Clarence) and Courtney Poirier (West Seneca) each had 11 digs, while Rachel Poirier (West Seneca) had six.

"I'll always look back on how this team improved each week," Head Coach Geoff Braun said. "I give them a lot of credit for that. This team was a pleasure to coach; they work so hard. The four seniors -- Hallie Christopher, Kristen Stanek, Courtney (Poirier), and Ray Ray (Rachel Poirier) -- we always talk about leaving the program better than when you found it, and without a doubt they did that in their careers. We're proud of them for that."

Kristen Stanek and Hallie Christopher were named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team.
