Morgan clutch in Devils' win

Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) connected for his second goal of the game with 6:33 left in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and give the Fredonia men's hockey team its first win of the season over previously undefeated Geneseo.

Morgan punched it in from short range to give the game winner. Morgan had opened the scoring 6:42 into the game to spot the Devils to a 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Victor Tracy (Albany).

Geneseo responded in the first with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead after the first period. The Knight's first two goals came on power plays following a five-minute major. The third goal was shorthanded.

The Devils knocked in a pair of scores in the second. Mike Freeman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.) made it a 3-all game. Ryan Dunner (Glassboro, N.J.) assisted on Freeman's score, and Tommy DeFelice (Tolland, Conn.) collected the assist on Haynes' score.

Morgan's goal was the only score of the third period. Haynes and Sam Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) assisted.

Fredonia starting goaltender Eric Bogart gave up all three goals in the first. He was spelled by Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) who shut out Geneseo the rest of the way in earning the first star. Bogart made 10 saves, and Rosen had 23.

Devin McDonald to the loss for Geneseo, making 41 goals and giving up all four scores.

Fredonia improved to 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the SUNYAC. Geneseo falls to 3-1-0 and 1-1-0.

The Devils play host to Lebanon Valley and Chatham in Steele Hall next weekend.
