Umbra Institute representative to visit Fredonia

The Umbra Institute, a study abroad organization based in Perugia, Italy, will be sending a representative to Fredonia on Tuesday, Feb. 13 to visit classrooms and give presentations to students.

A campus-wide information session will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. in Williams Center Room G103B. In addition to providing an overview of the program, the representative will be offering assistance to those interested in applying for the summer or Fall 2018 semesters.

The Umbra Institute is often referred to as “the big university town in a small Italian city.” Perugia perches on a beautiful hill in Umbria, the green heart of Italy. “The institute offers a number of distinctive and innovative academic programs,” said Erin Willis, assistant director of Study Abroad and Student Exchange at Fredonia. “The General Studies Program is based on a traditional liberal arts curriculum and allows students to take a wide variety of courses taught in English. Students may also participate in more specialized programs, such as the Food Studies and Sustainability program or may take classes directly at local Italian universities."

The Umbra Institute was founded in 1999 in cooperation with Arcadia University. They have become a leader in study abroad, hosting nearly 400 students from more than 100 U.S. colleges and universities annually. The institute is among the few in Italy that focuses heavily on community engagement activities.
