"One Stop Drop" system created on campus for recycling

An impressive total of 17 items – from plastic bottles to newspapers to tin cans – may now be deposited into one single recycling bin. Gone are the days when there were blue-colored bins for just paper in residence halls and offices, and students and faculty were asked to cart other recyclables to central collection sites in their buildings. Five students, all members of the local Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter, are assisting the Sustainability Committee by adopting the green recycling bin program for a class project in an upper-level Business Administration course.

Former president of the Fredonia Alumni Association Francis “Mac” G. McCoy of Fredonia, N.Y., died Nov. 11, 2008. He served as vice president of the Fredonia Alumni Association board of directors, and as president from 1990 to 1998. As an undergraduate political science major, he was elected president of the Student Association during 1979-1980.

Small reproductions of movie star photos, with accompanying biographies, and lobby cards from the silent era have been assembled for “Silent Movies,” an exhibit prepared by Kathleen Sacco now in Reed Library. The exhibit also introduces a new feature on the library's website which allows viewing of silent film clips.

SUNY Fredonia students Joshua Curry-Bascome and Cristina Rodriguez have been appointed to the Youth Service Committee of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service. Their appointments were made through the Governor’s Office of Volunteerism and Civic Engagement. Both students are active in the SUNY Fredonia Volunteer and Community Services program coordinated by Joyce Harvard Smith on campus.
