Senior Valerie Andryshak, a graduating transfer student, was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from Tau Sigma Honor Society, the national honor society for transfer students, in celebration of her academic and civic contributions. It is the largest scholarship awarded annually by the national organization.

Tau Sigma awarded 57 scholarships to students across the U.S. totaling $100,000 in recognition of high academic achievement and transfer student involvement. For more information, go online.

Each November, the national office of Tau Sigma accepts applicants for the scholarship, and each chapter is eligible to forward one application. Fredonia had several accomplished Tau Sigma members, and recommended Ms. Andryshak, a senior Mathematics Adolescence Education major from Middletown, who has been an e-board member of Tau Sigma since Fall 2016. She transferred to Fredonia from Le Moyne College.

Andryshak has maintained a 3.97 GPA while being very involved in the campus and local community. Her resume of engagement and leadership experiences at Fredonia beyond Tau Sigma includes serving as president of Transfer Student Organization, as a Transfer Mentor, a member of the Academic Advising Council, a fall and spring Orientation Leader, organizer of the Welcome Tent during Move-In Weekend, a weekly volunteer at the Lakeshore Humane Society and an annual participant in Relay for Life, Fall Sweep and Buffalo News Kids Day. In addition, she is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, Pi Mu Epsilon honor society in mathematics and Kappa Delta Pi honor society in education.
