The State University of New York at Fredonia has established a Robert Noyce Scholarship Program providing $7500 scholarships to support students currently enrolled in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field to seek certification to teach science or mathematics in high-needs middle or high schools.

High-needs schools are in "districts with high concentrations of students with extraordinary needs and low fiscal capacity, as measured by high Need/Resource Capacity" 1. This Need/Resource Capacity "is a measure of a district's ability to meet the needs of its students with local resources" 2. It's a ratio of an estimate of the poverty percentage in the district to its combined wealth 3 (Click here to see a sample list of such schools in Western New York).

To apply for a scholarship, you must meet certain eligibilty requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residence status
  • Transfer student to SUNY Fredonia must have an Associate's Degree and a 3.0 g.p.a. or higher, and at least a B- in all courses that would count toward the SUNY Fredonia major
  • Current SUNY Fredonia students must have junior or senior class standing and be enrolled in a STEM field, but not leading to a teaching certificate, a g.p.a. of 3.0 or higher, both overall and in the STEM major, and a C+ or better in all major courses.
