Welcome to Project ELA
Project ELA - the English Language Acquisition Project - is a federally funded, Title III National Professional Development Program. It was awarded in 2002 to SUNY Fredonia and will continue until the fall of 2012.
The project was funded to:
Recruit preservice and inservice teachers who are committed to educating K-12 students for whom English is a second language;
Assist with a portion of the tuition and textbook costs associated with pursuing and completing TESOL certification through SUNY Fredonia’s College of Education;
Partner and collaborate with area school districts and education agencies to offer coursework options to preservice and inservice teachers outside of the immediate SUNY Fredonia area;
Assist participants in preparing and applying for open TESOL positions upon their certification;
Evaluate the effects and efforts of Project ELA and its participants in meeting local, regional, and statewide needs.
