REHABILITATION OF MASON HALL - PHASE ONE

SCOPE OF WORK

The project will involve three areas of Mason Hall: Old Mason, New Mason and the Annex. The one story structure of the Annex will be razed in order to construct a two-story Recital Hall. The footprint of the Recital Hall will cover the area of the existing courtyard and the one story structure of the Annex.

The scope of work is as follows:

Old Mason:

  • Remove existing windows and provide new thermal double hung windows to match existing profile per New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation requirements.
  • Replace existing roof with a new standing seam copper roof.
  • Provide a new first and second floor connection to the Recital hall addition, located on the north end of Old Mason.

New Mason:

  • Convert existing faculty offices (rooms 138 and 139 located on the west side of New mason) into the Directors office.
  • Convert lounge vending area and room 151 (band and orchestra storage area) into Administration area, Assistant Directors Office, Faculty Mail Room, Vestibule connecting New Mason to Recital Hall and Storage area.

Recital Hall:

The Basement will contain the following areas:

  1. Mechanical Room
  2. Chiller Room
  3. Transformer Room
  4. Duct ways
  5. Areaways

The first level will contain the following areas:

  1. Six Faculty Offices
  2. Green Room
  3. Restrooms
  4. Lobby
  5. 503 seat Recital Hall

The second level will contain the following areas:

  1. 880 square foot Classroom
  2. Recording Studio with drum and vocal booths
  3. Control Room with equipment and edit rooms
  4. Lobby area

Exterior Finishes of Recital Hall:

  • First and second levels will be faced with masonry brick to match (as close as possible) brick of Old Mason.
  • Clerestory of second level will be faced with flat seam copper panel wall and roof windows.
  • The sloped roof areas will be constructed of standing seam copper panels with copper flashing at the parapets.
  • Lobby areas will be enclosed with aluminum window wall system.

Outdoor Plaza Area:

The outdoor plaza area will be located on the east side of the building facing the quad. The plaza will have the following elements.

  1. Flared concrete walkway extending from the entrance out to the quad.
  2. Two concrete benches with two-lamp fluorescent recessed lamp fixtures under the seat to accent the space during the evening hours.
  3. Metal grating will be placed over the areaways along the east side of the building.

Dods Hall Pool Area:

  • Dods Hall pool will be covered over with a new floor system. This space was originally designated for surge space, which is no longer needed for this project; however it was decided to keep the construction of the new floor in the project.
