Stephanie A. Zajac of Bath has been selected as the 2005 recipient of the Lanford Presidential Prize, an honor created and endowed by late SUNY Fredonia President Emeritus Oscar Lanford to recognize a member of the graduating class who has exhibited balanced achievement while exemplifying the university's ideals. She will be given the Lanford Presidential Prize medal at the morning
Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14.
"I am so honored to be receiving this award," Ms. Zajac said. "How wonderful it is to be recognized for something that I've loved doing for four years - being a part of Fredonia."
A senior Childhood Education major with a concentration in Spanish and minor in Dance, Ms. Zajac has combined academic excellence with an impeccable record of campus involvement. During her SUNY Fredonia student career, Ms. Zajac has served as a resident assistant, president of the Orchesis Dance Company, secretary of the Student Association and the Fredonia State Show Choir and a college ambassador. She has been active in the Teacher Education Club, STEPS and her Hall Council and has worked as a volunteer for Superdance. Ms. Zajac is also a member of the National Dean's List, Kappa Delta Pi, Sigma Delta Pi - national honor societies in professional education and Spanish, respectively - and the Alma Mater Society.
The Lanford Presidential Prize is the latest award for Ms. Zajac, who has also earned the 2001 Fredonia Achievement Award, the 2001 Grandchildren of Alumni Scholarship, the 2002 Faculty/Staff Scholarship, the 2003 CWC Marion Sonnenfeld Scholarship and the New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
