Habiterra name to be added to plaque of honorees at SUNY FredoniaDec. 2, 2004SUNY Fredonia selected Habiterra Architecture and Landscape Architecture of Jamestown as Contractor of the Year at an annual luncheon recently. Principal Architect Robert A. Arnone and Landscape Architect Rodney A. Drake accepted the award. Habiterra was one of more than 60 companies which performed capital projects on campus last year being honored at the annual Contractors Recognition Luncheon. A 42-person firm headquartered in Jamestown since 1956, Habiterra also has offices in Warren, Pa., and Memphis, Tenn. Its projects at the university include two signature features of the campus: Symphony Circle and the Lakeshore Savings Clocktower Plaza, the latter of which is a visual landmark. The firm has also designed the Kirkland Circle, a stone-paved area with benches and garden near the residence halls; the upgraded baseball and softball fields; the reconstruction of the campus all-weather track, and the new tennis courts. "We are very pleased to present this award to Habiterra," said Vice President for Administration Tracy S. Bennett, who hosted the luncheon. "This company has continually exhibited the highest degree of professionalism in its work, outstanding performance in meeting deadlines and suggesting alternatives, and has contributed to the quality of life and the outstanding appearance of the SUNY Fredonia campus." The company name will be engraved in a plaque on display at the university's Facilities Planning Office. SUNY Fredonia has presented the Contractor of the Year award since 2000 to recognize contractors who improve the comfort, convenience and aesthetic appearance of the campus. The winner is selected on the basis of professionalism, overall performance and the finished product. S. St. George Enterprises of Fredonia was the 2003 winner of the award. The luncheon at SUNY Fredonia is held annually. Vice President Bennett pointed out that about half of the contractors who are hired by the university are Chautauqua County firms. |
