The
School of Music will hold its annual Concerto Competition on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in King Concert Hall. Admission to this event is free and open to the public.
The competition will feature over a dozen of the top student musicians and vocalists at SUNY Fredonia. Their performances will be judged by members of the School of Music faculty members and the winners - generally two to four contestants - will be given the opportunity to appear with some of the most prestigious musical ensembles at SUNY Fredonia later in the academic year.
"These are among the School of Music's most accomplished students," said Dr. Barry Kilpatrick, Assistant Director of the SUNY Fredonia School of Music and a Professor of Trombone and Euphonium. "They have already been through a tough screening process in order to win faculty approval to participate in the competition, and now they will perform their solos before a large audience and a panel of faculty judges. This is always one of our best concerts of the year, and I know it will be difficult to choose the winners."
Participants in the 2004 Concerto Competition will include: Marlene Beckmann (piano); Kari Crabb (flute); Andrew Dunn (violin); Maria Fasciano (soprano); Jennifer Fry (violin); Melissa Labuda (flute); and Will Lang (trombone).
Other contestants will be Jeffrey Levine (string bass); Kristen Norwark (soprano); Amy Pribulick (flute); Thomas Roblee (marimba); Sara Schoch (soprano); Alexander Verstraete (trumpet) and David Wozniak (saxophone).
