SUNY Fredonia holding panel on impact of Sept. 11

9/10/04

A SUNY Fredonia panel discussion, first in the Fredonia Forum series, has been set for Thursday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room to discuss "How 9/11 Changed Us."

Organized by the university's American Democracy Project, the discussion will be launched by initial remarks from panelists Daryl O'Brien Parr, professor of social work; Michael Daley, director of Human Resources; Ann Burns, chief of University Police; and Julius Leone, director of Chautauqua County Emergency Services.

"The Fredonia Forum series has been established for the citizens of Chautauqua County to get together with members of the campus community to talk about issues of value to both," Richard Reddy, member of the American Democracy Project Committee and Sociology Professor, said. "Each forum will feature a panel of experts from the community and from the campus."

The series is sponsored by the SUNY Fredonia American Democracy Project, linked to a nationwide effort on campuses to foster civic engagement. Campus coordinator for the American Democracy Project is Communications Professor Ann Carden.

Future forums are scheduled for Sept. 16, Sept. 30, Oct. 14, Oct. 28, and Nov. 9. The Sept. 30 forum will be part of the national "DebateWatch," focusing on the first Presidential debate. The third will concentrate on health care issues, the fourth on the economy and jobs, and the final session will look at the media and politics.
