David Tiffany, Ph.D., begins April 21 as vice president for university advancement at the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he will concurrently serve as executive director of the Fredonia College Foundation.
President Dennis L. Hefner said Dr. Tiffany was selected after several
months of a nationwide search. "Dr. Tiffany has the knowledge,
background, and vision to effectively lead the campus in this critical
position," President Hefner said.
Dr. Tiffany’s experience in university administration and fundraising
began in 1975, soon after he started his academic career as a professor
of political science and history. Most recently, he was the vice
president for development and alumni affairs at The College of New
Jersey. Under his leadership there, the university foundation saw fundraising
increase from $1.1 million in 2002 to $2.4 million in 2004. Also, alumni
contributions increased 120 percent.
Previously, he was vice president of university advancement at the
California University of Pennsylvania, where, in addition to alumni and
foundation activities, he was responsible for public relations,
publications, the university website, an environmental restoration
program, and two economic development programs. He also served as the
university spokesperson.
Prior to that, he was vice president for university advancement at
Bemidji State University in Minnesota, where he secured a gift that
established the then-largest endowed chair in the Minnesota State
University system, and saw an increase in foundation assets by nearly $7
million in 12 years.
Dr. Tiffany’s early career included teaching, administrative, and
fundraising appointments at the University of South Alabama and East
Tennessee University, and he has published and presented numerous
scholarly works on American history.
A native of Binghamton, N.Y., he received his doctorate in American
history from SUNY Binghamton, and his bachelor’s degree in history from
Dickinson College.
He has been active in Rotary, Boy Scouts of America, and the
Presbyterian Church, along with community libraries, chambers of
commerce, Kiwanis, and musical organizations.
The parents of two adult children, Dr. Tiffany and his wife, Peggy, are
moving to Fredonia.
