New facility to be named University Commons

Nov. 12, 2004

President Dennis Hefner announced that after a campus-wide competition, the name for the new multi-faceted facility at Cranston Hall, currently under construction but scheduled to open in 2006, will be "University Commons."

A screening committee that included Distinguished Service Professor Franklin Krohn and two students, Jessica Albright (sociology senior) and Melissa Dimartino (English senior), selected the four finalists who had submitted six proposed names between them.

The winners were Mark Delcamp (Asst. Mgr., FSA), Brendan Keiser (English Education sophomore), Iris Rosa (Cleaner, Alumni Hall), and Susan Wilkes (Clerk, Reed Library).

The President's Cabinet selected the name University Commons from a combination of names and descriptions submitted by Mr. Delcamp and Ms. Wilkes, who will share first and second prize (each receives a $75 gift certificate). Mr. Keiser and Ms. Rosa will each receive a $25 gift certificate.
