Link to U.S. News Best Colleges Rankings SUNY Fredonia was cited as one of the Best Universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report in its annual college rankings issue released Aug. 20. It was included in the top tier of both public and private institutions which provide a full range of undergraduate and master's degree programs. There were 572 universities among all tiers in the university category.

Among public universities only, SUNY Fredonia was ranked 13th in the North.

"Two things which elevate Fredonia's standings in these rankings are its excellent graduation and retention rates," President Dennis L. Hefner said. "Our success in graduating students on time and keeping them enrolled after their first year doesn't happen by accident. We have programs in place designed to ensure our students have the best experience possible."

Two such programs are a four-year guarantee making sure students have all the courses they require in order to graduate in four years, and a Liberal Arts Freshman Year program for first-year students who have not declared a major.

U.S. News & World Report gathered data from each college in up to 15 indicators of academic excellence to rank the nation's colleges. Among the indicators are such things as peer reputation, retention, graduation rates, faculty resources, financial resources, alumni giving rate, and class size.
