Classical guitarist/lutist William Yelverton to hold guest recital9/9/04
The State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music will host a guest recital with classical guitarist and lutist Dr. William Yelverton on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. in the Juliet J. Dr. Yelverton will perform a variety of selections, such as "Elizabethan Lute Music (Round Battle Galliard, Mr. White's Thing and Mr. White's Nothing)" and "Fantasia" by John Dowland, "Monsieur's Almanac" by Daniel Batchelor, J.S. Bach's "Prelude Fugue and Allegro (BWV 998)," and Jean Phillippe Rameau's "Gavotte and Six Doubles." Other pieces will include Joaquin Turnina's "Homage a Tarrega," "Three Etudes" by Agustin Barrios Mangore, Joaquin Rodrigo's "Invocation y Danza" and "Frevo" by Egberto Gismonti. Dr. Yelverton earned his doctoral degree in Guitar Performance from Florida State University and is currently the Director of Guitar Studies at Middle Tennessee State University. He has been the recipient of awards at competitions sponsored by the Guitar Foundation of America and the National Federation of Music Clubs. Dr. Yelverton has toured extensively throughout North America, the Caribbean and Europe and has received critical acclaim for both his recordings as well as his guitar transcriptions of harpsichord suites by Bach, Handel and Rameau. Dr. Yelverton experienced a career highlight in November 2000 when he joined legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti for a concert with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra that drew an audience of 17,000. |
