Set inside a historical insane asylum in France, this "play within a play" takes place shortly after the French Revolution and tells of events during those tumultuous years. Since the "actors" are inmates of the asylum, the nurses and supervisors occasionally step in to restore order. The work, whose full title is The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat As Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton under the Direction of The Marquis de Sade, has been hailed by critics and audiences for its unique style and structure. This production contains adult themes and is recommended for mature audiences.
