The burnished sound of trumpet virtuoso Charles Schlueter is highlighted in this opening concert in the Trumpet Concerto by Hummel and Copland's Quiet City. Rounding out the heroic theme are the Leonore Overture No. 3 by Beethoven and Haydn's "Military" Symphony No. 100.

Legendary American violinist Glenn Dicterow, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, is the featured guest artist on this program of works by American masters. In addition to the haunting Violin Concerto by Samuel Barber, Maestro Cortese leads the orchestra in Copland's classic Appalachian Spring and Bernstein's scintillating and jazzy Three Dance Episodes from On the Town.

 Vivid scenes of Italy are the inspiration for this afternoon of colorful masterworks. Rossini's Overture to the opera Italian in Algiers, Respighi's Trittico Botticelliano and Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony are all designed to delight and entertain. A special feature of this concert will be Italian opera arias by Mozart and Rossini, sung by the winners of a special audition sponsored by the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and the Fredonia Opera Theatre.

 The Chautauqua Children's Chorale, the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus, and the Concert Choir of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church join Maestro Cortese, vocal soloists and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra to celebrate the beauty of choral singing. The program showcases these three outstanding choruses in a program including Baldassare Galuppi's Dixit Dominus, Benjamin Britten's Cantata Misericordium, Op. 69, and  John Rutter's Mass of the Children.
