Getting Connected - ResNet

Getting Connected To the ResNet Network

1.  Open up your web-browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Safari or etc.), If the Registration Page does not come up for any reason, type in the address http://phpreg.resnet.fredonia.edu/ and it should come up, if not call the ResNet office to set up an appointment (716.673.3668).

2.  Ensure you have one of the following accepted antivirus programs installed [AVG,Kapersky, Kapersky Internet Security, McAfee Home/Enterprise, Norton, Norton 360, Panda, BitDefender, Sophos, Symantec Corp., Trend Mico/Micro Internet Security 2008]. If so, CLICK NEXT, DO NOT REINSTALL or Install another antivirus program. If not, uninstall your current antivirus program by going to Control panel- Add/Remove programs. Once uninstalled, restart your computer and then install either AVG or Symantec off of the website.

3.  Enter your Last name (Case sensitive, the first letter of your last name must be capitalized) and enter your Fredonia ID (The 'F' in the beginning of your Fredonia ID must also be capitalized)

4. Accept the terms and agreements and download the scan. Once the scan is completed  and recieve a 'success page' you should be instructed to restart your machine and you may do so now.

        -If you fail the scan or get a message that says "client not found" call the ResNet Office for help (716.673.3668).

*99% of the time your computer is setup correctly to be used on our Network, If not try the steps below*

Windows Vista

  1. Click on Window's Logo in the lower left  corner of the screen , then click on the Control Panel. Click on Network and Internet.
  2. In the menu that pops up, select Properties. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Make sure that the Obtain IP address automatically and the Obtain DNS server address automatically options are SELECTED. Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the page. It should say DHCP Enabled.
  3. There should be nothing else in ether of the boxes. If there are, select the entries and click Remove.
  4. Click the DNS tab, if there is anything listed in either of the two boxes, select the entries and click Remove.
  5. Select the WINS Tab. If there are any entries in the white box, select them and remove them. Under NetBIOS setting: Select Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Click OK, then OK again, this should bring you back to the "Local Area Connection" properties.
  6. Next Click on the Advanced Tab. Make sure the Internet Connection Firewall option is CHECKED and the Internet Connection Sharing option is UNCHECKED.
  7. Next Click the Settings button, make sure that none of the boxes are CHECKED. Click OK, then OK again.
  8. Right click on Internet Explorer and pick "Run As Administrator" . You should see the ResNet Registration Page. If the Registration Page does not come up for any reason, type in the address http://phpreg.resnet.fredonia.edu/ and it should come up. Be sure to properly fill in your last name and your FREDONIA I.D. (make sure they're correctly capitalized, as well) Read our usage policy and click: I Have Read and I Accept the Usage Policy, download the scan and once completed you will receive a 'success page' and you should be instructed to restart your machine and you may do so now.

Windows XP Pro/Home

  1. Click Start, then Settings, and click on Control Panel. In the Control Panel, click on the Network Connections icon then double-click on the Control Panel Icon that says Network Connections (if there are two, pick the first one). Right-click on the Local Area Connection.
  2. In the menu that pops up, select Properties. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Make sure that the Obtain IP address automatically and the Obtain DNS server address automatically options are SELECTED. Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the page. It should say DHCP Enabled.
  3. There should be nothing else in ether of the boxes. If there are, select the entries and click Remove.
  4. Click the DNS tab, if there is anything listed in either of the two boxes, select the entries and click Remove.

  8. Open up  Internet Explorer and you should see the ResNet Registration Page. (make sure they're correctly capitalized, as well) Read our usage policy and click: I Have Read and I Accept the Usage Policy, download the scan and once completed you will receive a 'success page' and you should be instructed to restart your machine and you may do so now.

Macintosh OS X

  1. Open the Apple menu, select  System Preferences and then click on Network.
  2. Click on built in ethernet. The next setting which reads: Configure: should be set to: Using DHCP Server.
  3. Save the settings upon exit.
  4. Open your web browser and you should be automatically taken to our registration page. If the Registration Page does not come up for any reason, type in the address http://phpreg.resnet.fredonia.edu/ and it should come up. Be sure to properly fill in your last name and your FREDONIA I.D. (make sure they're correctly capitalized, as well) Read our usage policy and click: I Have Read and I Accept the Usage Policy, download the scan and once completed you will receive a 'success page' and you should be instructed to restart your machine and you may do so now.
