Mission Statement Revision

Over the past year, the campus has come to an agreement on new pathways forward with a Strategic Plan and set of Baccalaureate Goals. In order to effectively implement these new initiatives, the SUNY Fredonia Mission Statement needs to be revised and updated. Over the past two months, the Mission Statement Revision Team, through reflection and research, has created a draft of a revised and more succinct Mission Statement, in order for the Senate and ultimately the campus to agree upon the final shape of the university's mission.

Here is the current draft (as of Dec. 10, 2012), based on the initial feedback received by the committee to date:

SUNY Fredonia educates, challenges, and inspires students to become  skilled, connected, creative, and responsible global citizens and professionals. The university enriches the world through scholarship, artistic expression, community engagement, and entrepreneurship.

The University Senate will be voting on this version of the Mission Statement at their February 4 meeting. All campus community members are welcome to share their thoughts on this version with the Senate Executive Committee before that meeting. Once the Senate approves a final Mission Statement, the campus will vote to ratify during the month of February.

The Committee Members are:
  • Michael Barone, Committee Chair (Advancement Division)
  • Ann Aldrich (M/C, Professional Staff)
  • Samantha Kenney (Faculty, Theatre & Dance)
  • John Kijinski (M/C, Dean, College of Arts & Sciences)
