College Senate Meeting: March 13, 2000 Agenda Item: 8a3 Description: Resolutions Concerning Reed Library: Michael Grady Resolution 1 The College Senate of the State University of New York College at Fredonia recognizes the value of the Reed Library Collection to the proper functioning of the College. As it is important to preserve this irreplaceable collection for current and future faculty and student scholars, as well as to plan for future expansion of the collection, we ask that all four floors of the Reed Library Annex be retained for housing the collection for the foreseeable future. We feel that compression of the collection to three floors is ill-advised. Resolution 2 Considering that the current weeding program was planned and implementation begun without faculty input, even to the extent of discarding some books with no records being kept, we ask that the weeding program now underway be immediately halted. A more modest weeding program with no goal or quota should be designed by faculty and librarians working together. A committee connected to the college senate and elected by the senate is needed to implement the above resolution and to represent the faculty in future matters such as this. Therefore: Resolution 3 Resolved that a library committee be established as a standing committee of the college senate. Finally the possible move of the learning center must be examined from all sides and all points of view: Resolution 4 Resolved that a campus-wide discussion be initiated to examine the following two items:
