College Senate Meeting: November 13, 2000
Agenda Item: 7c
Description: Report of the Planning and Budget Committee
October 25, 2000
The Planning and Budget Committee currently consists of Dick Reddy and Jon Kraus (co-chairs), Blaine Gaustad (secretary), Kathy Forster, Arlene Hibschweiler, and Tracy Bennett. Dick Reddy will have principal co-chair responsibilities during the fall semester and Jon Kraus will have principal co-chair responsibilities during the spring semester.
Because she is on sabbatical leave, Karen Mills-Courts resigned from the committee and the Governance Committee has yet to identify a replacement for Karen as one of the two representatives from the Arts and Humanities area. A student is yet to be appointed to the committee by the Student Association.
The committee has met regularly throughout the semester to date.
Much of its time has been spent on getting organized and up and running since the committee barely functioned last year.
The committee has met with Vice President Reck and the Deans on the Academic Master Plan and on hiring plans for the 2001-2002 academic year.
Planning and Budget is working on prioritizing the issues it will address for the remainder of the year. We decided to have our co-chairs schedule one-on-one meetings with the President and the Vice Presidents to determine their priorities and concerns as a way of identifying issues they believed were important and on which the committee could be of assistance. Ultimately Dick Reddy met with the President and the Vice Presidents for their ideas and suggestions and summaries of those meetings were presented to the other committee members.
The committee is now in the process of reviewing their ideas and developing its own list of priorities which will then be presented to the President for his assessment and approval. Subsequently, a series of issue-oriented meetings will be held over the coming months with the President, the Vice Presidents and the committee membership itself.
The committee has relied on Tracy Bennett to offer an overview of budgetary issues on campus and has met with Rich Notte who provided information on the data the Institutional Studies Office generates and/or has available.
