About the Program:
Double Reed Day at SUNY Fredonia is for Middle and High School oboists and bassoonists to come and spend the day working with the double reed faculty and students in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
The day will include a masterclass focusing on both solo performing and the techniques of playing; a reedmaking masterclass focusing on how to adjust reeds so they will work more easily and successfully; coached double reed chamber music reading sessions and a final group reading of Handel’s Water Music conducted by Dr. David Rudge, Director of Orchestras and Opera at SUNY Fredonia.
New this year will be a class to start first time oboe and bassoon players. Also available will be free double reed repair by woodwind repair technician Brenda Small.
Joining Double Reed Day this year will be Fredonia’s new bassoon professor, Laura Koepke, member of the Quintet of the Americas, and active performer in NYC.
Parents and teachers are encouraged to attend all day, and in particular the final concert at 2:30pm in Rosch Recital Hall.
Please plan to stay for a free performance by the SUNY Fredonia College Symphony performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in King Concert Hall at 8pm.
