Daily Activities
Small Ensembles: all students will play in two chamber ensembles, at least one of which will be a woodwind quintet. Both ensembles will have a daily rehearsal and coaching with a member of the Fredonia Woodwind Quintet. Ensemble assignments are made following brief auditions on Sunday.
Private Lessons: each student will have one private lesson during the week. Please bring private lesson materials to camp, and have a solo or etude prepared for your lesson.
Master Classes: each instrument will have a daily class for instruction, demonstration and coaching. Double reed players will work on reed-making skills at this time.
FWQ Master Classes: the Fredonia Woodwind Quintet will perform, demonstrate and coach student ensembles during these evening classes. Other classes will deal with such special topics as ensemble rehearsal techniques, coping with performance anxiety, and other topics of general interest.
Student Performances: student ensembles will have opportunities to perform in master classes, special concerts and the final concert on Sunday. A staff pianist will be on hand for a limited number of student soloists as well. Students who wish to perform solos should have them fully prepared, and bring the piano accompaniment parts with them to camp.
Musicianship Lab: music theory and related creative topics will be explored with the facilities of the computer instruction lab at the Fredonia School of Music, under the supervision of the SUNY Fredonia faculty. Additional computer time will be available on a limited basis.
