Clarinetist Marcy D. Bacon has been serving the SUNY-Fredonia community as adjunct clarinet faculty since 2001. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance degree from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, and a Master of Music in Performance degree from Michigan State University, where she studied with Elsa Ludewig-Verdher. Currently, she is a full-time D.M.A. student (Doctor of Musical Arts) and Clarinet Studio Assistant at the Eastman School of Music, where she studies with Kenneth Grant. She has participated in master classes with Eric Mandat, Joan Tower and David Shifrin, where she was heard and well received.

Marcy performs with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, as well as freelance engagements around Western New York. As an Eastman student, she performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble (including a Carnegie Hall performance in February 2005), Eastman Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra, and Musica Nova. She has performed previously with the Vancouver (WA) Symphony, Hochstein Music Educators Wind Band, and the Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) Orchestra. As principal clarinet of the PYP, Marcy performed in Japan, Korea and Germany on two international tours. She can be heard on the Oregon Catholic Press label performing church music and compositions by Jacob Avshalomov.
