Graduate Degree Programs
Master of Music in Music Education
The Master of Music in Music Education prepares students for higher levels of education and provides the academic qualifications required for teaching certification in New York State. Final project options include thesis, performance recital or composition/arrangment.
Admission Requirements:
- Bachelor of Music in Music Education
- Audition (for students choosing the performance recital as their final project)
This degree requires successful completion of either 30 or 36 semester hours of coursework. The 30-hour track requires a final project. The 36-hour track is available to practicing teachers and does not require a final project. Both tracks require comprehensive final examinations. Coursework is divided between music education, theory/history and elective courses.
Master of Music in Performance
The Master of Music in Performance (possible tracks: Orchestral Instruments, Conducting, Piano, or Voice)requires at minimum successful completion of 30 semester hours of coursework (Orchestral Instruments, Conducting & Piano tracks) or 34 semester hours of coursework (voice track), which is divided between performance training, theory/history and elective courses. A comprehensive oral examination and performance culminate the program.

Master of Music in Theory/Composition
The Master of Music in Theory/Composition requires a concentration in either theory or composition.
Admission Requirements:
- Bachelor of Music with appropriate concentration in theory or composition
- Review of undergraduate analytical or compositional achievement
- On-campus Interview
This degree requires successful completion of 30 hours of coursework, which is divided between theory or composition courses, as well as history and studio instruction ane electives. A thesis (theory project or composition) and comprehensive oral examination are required.
