Financial Aid: Summer Sessions 2008

Federal and State financial aid is available for students who will be enrolled at Fredonia during Summer Sessions 2008. Students applying for financial aid must complete the 2008-09 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application on line at https://webmail.fredonia.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Additionally students must complete the Summer School Financial Aid Application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.  Visit the Financial Aid Website for more information on applying for summer financial aid.

What types of aid are available?

1. NYS TAP GRANT

  • Must be a New York State resident.
  • Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours during Summer I and/or Summer II and meet New York State Income guidelines and be taking classes at SUNY Fredonia in the summer.
  • Must have accrued 24 credit hours in the previous two consecutive semesters at SUNY Fredonia.
  • Cannot be used as a credit toward direct summer charges (tuition/fees).
  • Not paid to you until October 2009 as per New York State TAP regulations.

2. FEDERAL PELL GRANT

  • Must meet Pell eligibility requirements.
  • Receipt of Pell in summer may decrease your Pell eligibility during the subsequent Fall/Spring semesters.
  • Only used as credit toward your bill if it is an authorized amount.
  • Pell will not be paid and potentially refunded until the middle of July for Summer I and/or Summer II.

3. FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN (SUBSIDIZED AND UNSUBSIDIZED)

  • Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours during Summer I and/or Summer II.
  • Receipt of a Stafford Loan in summer will decrease the amount available during the subsequent Fall/Spring semesters.  Federal Regulations allow an annual 12 month maximum loan limit depending on your year in college.
  • If you have NEVER completed the new on-line Master Promissory Note (eMPN) for a Stafford loan at SUNY Fredonia, please go to http://www.fredonia.edu/finaid/stafford.asp.  Click "Apply Now."  You will be linked to http://www.hesc.com/ where you can complete your e-MPN. 
  • You will be notified of the approved amount with a "Stafford Loan Disclosure Statement" from New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, which gives final approval/guarantee information.
  • Used as credit toward your bill when the loan has been approved by NYSHESC. *please see below

4. FEDERAL PLUS LOAN

  • Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours during Summer I and Summer II.
  • Complete the on-line PLUS application process by accessing http://www.fredonia.edu/finaid/plus.asp and clicking on "Apply On-Line for PLUS."
  • Used as a credit toward your bill when the loan has been approved by NYSHESC. *please see below

5. PRIVATE ALTERNATIVE LOANS

  • Alternative Financing Options are available on line at http://www.fredonia.edu/finaid/alt.asp.
  • Notification of approval or denial will be sent to you by your lender.
  • Used as a credit toward your bill when the loan has been approved by your lender.

* Students taking less then 6 credit hours in Summer I may only use an approved Alternative Loan or Pell for deferral.  All others must pay at the time of registration.  If Summer II registration allows the student to be eligible for Stafford Loans, they may be eligible to defer the Summer II payment.
