Barber shops and shoe repair shops advertised in the weekly newspaper The Fredonia Censor. These trades catered to both the Italian immigrant community and the rest of the population of Fredonia.
Gangi Brothers Shoe Repairing Shop (link to Kevin's Business Section on shoe Repair) promoted their services with advertisements like these in 1915 which highlighted their use of electric tools and separate facitlites for ladies.

Advertisements became increasingly sophisticated and frequent as Italian-American owned sole proprietorships thrived in the village of Fredonia. The People's Hardware, 3

The Fredonia Censor reported community news, social and church events that rarely included the Italian immigrant community. By advertising in this newspaper these businesses clearly wished to cater to the entire community, not just the immigrant population. In doing so, they were in direct competition with long-standing Fredonia businesses for the same customers. These other businesses also advertised in the same newspaper and so businesses like The People's Hardware began producing sophisticated ad copy.
