3-1-3 Class of 2008-2009 Survey
Q. What advice would you give to next year's class of 3-1-3 students about what to expect as a college student? This information will be shared with students and parents during the Fall 2009 3-1-3 orientation session.

Dont be afraid to talk, sitting in awkward silence is more painful than stating your opinion. take world poetry with Prof. Gerber

I would say never to be afraid to ask for help or talk to college students. They are not scary. Make sure you study a lot more for college then you did for high school.
-
Professor you can be trying your hardest and it will not meet their standards. You have to push yourself more so that you did in high school. But it's totally worth it.
-
Even though the classes you take may seem easy, don't take them lightly and still study hard for the tests because they will end up being harder than you think.
-
You really have to step it up, and study and do your homework. Some of the classes are easier than others, but if you find it challenging, you will just have to try harder and study harder to get good grades.
-
Relax, don't be nervous. Everyone is there to help and is willing to help, so ask questions and be proactive. As long as you keep up with the class (go to lectures, do the homework, turn in homework on time, and study) you should be fine.

If you are from a highschool far away, it is difficult to balance the travel with highschool and college, but if you work hard It definitely pays off in the end
-
You have to be self-motivated because the teachers aren't going to walk you through every little thing. However, if you take the initiative to ask for help, they are more than willing to give you every resource and advice that they can.

It is easy to be lazy and fall behind topics and discussions in class. Try to stay along with readings and discussions and you'll find classes easy.

Expect that it will take some confidence and initiative to meet new people, but once you do it's great. I'd recommend taking a class where you are the only 3-1-3 student because it challenges you to step outside your boundaries and really enter the college scene. If I could, I would have taken more advantage of the clubs and other offerings. The fitness center is great! Meet new people! Explore what REALLY interests you! And lastly just have fun and gain some confidence!

Don't take it lightly. Its important to keep up on the work and study because if you are transfering you need a certain grade to have it transfer to your other school. So keeping your grades up is really important.
-
Don't wait until the last minute to do your work!
-
Don't be afraid to take the classes you want, even if your friend doesn't want to take them with you. It will teach you independence and self assurance.
-
If you have to miss a class because of high school obligations (such as extracurricular activities), don't be afraid to talk to the professor to make up what you missed. They are understanding and will make arrangements with you to make up the work that you miss.
-
Try not to get overwhelmed with the work that you have to do for your college classes.
-
Do the homework; try to really understand what is being taught instead of just going through the motions because your test grades will be higher. Don't expect the professors to know you, but do expect them to know what kind of student you are. Do the work, come to class, and study for the tests.
Work hard, study, take advantage of all the support, and enjoy :)
DON'T PICK PROFESSOR GERBER! Don't procrastinate. Do the homework.
-
Go to the teacher's office hours and get help from them. Show up extra early for classes so you get a good seat. Take classes that your friends aren't in; you meet cool people that way.
-
If I had any advice to give, it would be to go in with an open mind and to not be scared. The classes are not as hard as I expected, and the teachers are so nice and willing to help. Participating in the 3-1-3 program was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made.
-
Don't slack on the college classes, put forth 100% effort. Do not put the 313 classes in front of the classes at the high school.
-
Stay on top of your homework and reading. If you don't, it will pile up fast, and you'll be stressed out.

My advice would be, never be afraid to ask questions, and if you are still doubting that you know the material the people at the Learning Center Drop-in Tutoring are a great help!

If you have a problem talk to the professor. They will try to help you with it, whether it be college related or a high school related problem.
