ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY LAB AND SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT
The technology lab is open to any student with a disability registered with the DSS office. The lab offers computers and other specialized equipment designed to aid the student in coursework on campus. The DSS office also offers training on the equipment and specialized software. In addition, the campus is moving forward in providing accessible technology in student labs. Currently, the Learning Center lab has one fully-accessible workstation (table height for wheel chairs, screen enlarger, screen reader, scanner).

Description of equipment/hardware:

  • IBM Compatible PCs
  • Reading Edge Scanner: Ability to scan text with immediate voice output and/or allow text to be placed in a computer file with voice access.
  • Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Jaws for Windows, Dragon Dictate, Text enlargement, Bookwise

We also have available for loan to students a limited number of the following low tech equipment:

  • variable speed cassette recorders/players
  • speaking/electronic dictionary
