The VA has a Work-Study Program which offers employment to those attending school at least three-quarter time and receiving educational benefits. Payment is hourly at the minimum wage. An advance check for the first 50 hours can be sent to the student who is accepted, if requested. After the advance is worked off, a check is generated for each additional 50 hours worked.
Duties:
· Assist VA beneficiaries (service persons, veterans, reservist, eligible dependants) with any VA claims or issues
· Distribute VA pamphlets or other information about VA programs to VA beneficiaries or potential beneficiaries
· Distribute information about other federal, state, or local government programs to beneficiaries
· Reconciliation of VA beneficiary’s records
· Assist VA coordinator and VA beneficiaries with all administrative duties including email, phone calls, fax, monthly newsletter, listserv, etc.
Qualifications:
· Customer Service
· Organizational skills
· Proficiency in Basic Computer programs and/or Information Systems
· Student must be enrolled 3 quarter time at SUNY Fredonia to be eligible for position
· Encourage enrollment of summer sessions to be eligible to work during summer breaks
Veterans under Chapters 30, 31, 1606 and 1607 can apply, as can children and spouses of veterans under Chapter 35. Two Students are accepted into the program for each semester. For more information, stop by the office or give us a call.
