Mission and Overview

Advancement, Engagement, and Economic Development

Fredonia established the Advancement, Engagement, and Economic Development (AEED) division to facilitate and support university-community collaborations that enhance the intellectual, cultural, artistic, and economic vibrancy of the region. Such collaborations include active community engagement, and partnerships with local and regional organizations, governments, businesses and universities.  Through governmental relations efforts, the division works strategically with elected officials at the county, state, and federal levels of government to maximize funding opportunities for the university.

AEED’s mission reflects Fredonia’s commitment to the values outlined in the Blueprint for Excellence strategic plan. Fredonia depends upon shared and vital networks of involvement, communication, and understanding in our relationships with one another and in our connections to Chautauqua County and the broader region. As a public, regional university, Fredonia has an important role in the cultural, intellectual, and economic growth of the region. Community engagement is valued both as a form of faculty scholarship and as an important learning experience for students. As a community that values creativity and collaboration, Fredonia relies on the diverse perspectives each person brings to campus relations and community partnerships.

AEED works across all divisions of the university to enhance the level of community engagement and regional economic impact.  The division includes the Fredonia Technology Incubator (FTI), the Career Development Office, the Native American Consortium, and the Program Evaluation Center.  In addition, the division also includes Fredonia's START-UP NY program, a tax-free incentive program designed to attract businesses and jobs to New York State.

The Division of AEED also includes Advancement consisting of the Development Office, Alumni Affairs, and the Fredonia College Foundation.  These areas work together to promote, advance, and support the activities and programs of Fredonia through fundraising and active engagement of our alumni.  The Fredonia College Foundation administers resources and supervises the investment of philanthropic funds and other revenues for the university.
