HAPPY NEW YEAR! We celebrate by posting a video of the Bob Florance arrangement of Auld Lang Syne for Baritone Sax and Big Band. Featured: Bruce Johnstone, director of Jazz Studies at State University of New York at Fredonia. Published by Walrus Music Publishing. Available from Ejazzlines.com.
One of our recent projects: "Gershwin's Greatest Hits"
The video below was filmed on Friday, May 16, 2014 at State University of New York's Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center. The theme of our annual commencement-eve concert was "Gershwin's Greatest Hits."
Bruce Johnstone conducted the all-professional Little Apple Big Band with student singers from the BFA musical theater and music programs at Fredonia.
This arrangement of Gershwin's "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" is by Nelson Riddle and published by Ejazz Lines Publications. Originally written for Ella Fitzgerald and the Gershwin Songbook series, we found that the arrangements also works nicely as a boy/girl duet.

Ron Cobb Copy Servicehttp://www.roncobbcopyservice.com/cart/xcart/customer/home.php?cat=8 |
We are primarily a print vendor for publishers that print gospel music orchestrations. Some publishers and individuals allow us to sell their orchestrations directly to the customer. The purpose of this web site is to provide a listing of titles that we are currently able to make available. Although we started out as a service for arrangers who needed their conductor's scores turned into parts for recording sessions, we've become much more. Being located in the Nashville area has placed us at the heart of the Christian music industry and over the years have worked closely with many of the publishers. We've been uniquely placed between the publisher and the Church and have found ourselves a resource for thousands of titles many of which are out of print and available only from us. |

Bradley SowashUnique Christmas arrangements for big band and choir! |
In 2008, Richard Rudolph, director of music for Convenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, VA commissioned and premiered four sacred jazz Christmas arrangements for Big Band and combined gospel and traditional choirs. The community response was enough to fill this large church for two standing-room-only shows. The church followed up by commissioning five more arrangements that premiered in January 2010 rather than December 2009 due to a big snowstorm which shut the town and highways. Despite this unusual timing for a Christmas concert the house was packed again.

Original Compositions and Arrangements by Scott Verville including a couple of Christmas charts. Editor's note: I especially like "Some Christmas Favorites" -- a 6 minute medley including "Jolly Old St. Nicholas, Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bell Rock, Jingle Bells, We Three Kings and We Wish You a Merry Christmas." (The band members have a bit of singing to do on this one.) I also like Scott's "Carol of the Bells" which comes two ways: for 5/4/4/4 big band (with auxilary percussion optional) or for concert band. |

Daryl McKenzie - composer, arranger, trombonist and music director |
Just discovered this musician based in Australia. There are number of standards in contemporary style as well as original tunes. I especially liked the up-tempo ensemble arrangement of "I Got Rhythm."
Denver and the Mile High Orchestra Repertoire includes many originals as well as contemporary versions of standards, including Christmas tunes and patriotic ones. |
While the rest of us were worrying about "Y2K" a group of talented friends were worrying about the future of music as we know it. The year was 1999 and Denver Bierman and his merry band of musicians that would come to be known as the Mile High Orchestra were putting together an act that would take them literally to the ends of the earth. The group of Belmont University students took the music they loved and combined it with a hot, pop style, mixed in a slick tight stage show and took it on the road. Blending a red hot horn section, along with jazz and big band roots, Denver and the Mile High Orchestra have created a sound that is unlike any other. With Denver Bierman, writing and arranging the band's music, the diverse sounds of legends such as Stevie Wonder, Chicago, and Earth Wind and Fire combine for a fresh look at contemporary pop. The rest, as they say, is history. |

Jazzcharts.net Supplying band directors and band leaders with music that swings, grooves, challenges, and educates young musicians and professional musicians alike |
Our Story We here at Jazzcharts.net are full time working jazz musicians, jazz educators, jazz composers and publishers. We are often asked to adjudicate high school jazz festivals where we offer up our expertise about the performance of this great art form. In our opinion, the biggest thing working against most high school jazz bands is not the talent of the individual players, but the music that they are performing. Most of the music, in our experience, is either too hard, too easy, and harmonically, rhythmically, and melodically unimaginative. This does a disservice to your audience as well as your students/fellow musicians. Inside this website, you’ll find music that swings, grooves, has depth, and is playable by bandsof any level. No longer will you have to sacrifice the sound of your band to accommodate charts that are written without the jazz tradition in mind. We also make sure that no chart goes out without the proper attention to formatting and editing. This ensures that our music will be played exactly as the composer intended it the first time your band reads it. Also, you may notice that we don’t keep a huge catalog of jazz charts. This is because we believe that keeping fewer high quality charts is better than having thousands of charts with a few “keepers” in the mix. Rest assured that each chart you find on this site is of the highest quality. |

Horn Charts, Combos, Big Band etc. From Greg: Believe it or not, I've been writing arrangements since I first started playing saxophone in 5th Grade. Later, as I worked my way through college, I wrote 3 horn combo charts for my wedding band. Once I received my Bachelor's degree (and later my Master's,) I continued honing my skills with larger ensembles, Big Bands, Concert Bands, Orchestra, etc. As a public school instrumental music teacher and gigging professional musician in the Detroit area, I continue to do what I enjoy...write charts and perform!! Check out my available charts. See anything you like? What do you need? Let me know! I specialize in transcriptions. |

http://terrificbigbandcharts.com/ Editor's note: I just discovered this web site on January 3, 2011 and it looks very promising. They have quite a number of instrumental and vocal not charts not available anywhere else. Terrific Big Band Music Charts was founded in 2009. The company might be new on the internet, but a devoted work ethic of professional customer service, along with a pure love of big band and swing music will result in us making our mark as the preferred provider of big band arrangements and first-rate music charts. Why? Because the website was created as a labor of love. Not only is founder John-Eric Booth an internet entrepreneur and businessman, but is also an accomplished big band singer, recording artist and performer (go to www.johnericbooth.com). |
“Terrific Big Band Music Charts is just one of my efforts to assist in keeping the Great American Songbook alive. I have a knack for finding incredible chart arrangements… some which have been out of print for a long, long time. And I love the classic charts penned by Billy May, Nelson Riddle and others, just to name a few. Some of their arrangements are really hard to round up. Thanks to my network of transcribers, bandleaders, and some publishers, we are making it possible to obtain these great charts at a reasonable price. And thus… the website was born.” |

bandcharts411.com http://bandcharts411.com/default.asp John Philips Music Service New listing as of Jan. 23, 2011! Check out these orginal compositions. Also has concert band arrangements. |
The arrangements in this collection are all new and have good lines and rich harmonies. They are written to be logical and melodic and easy to play and easy to listen to. There is a theme or style to each one and this helps keep the players interested. The technique required is as small as possible because the object is to make music not something that sounds like a scale book.

Alaadeen big band charts http://www.alaadeen.com/index.html Charts are only $1.75 each! |
Born July 24, 1934, Alaadeen grew up around music. “I listened to all types of styles. I went to Philharmonic concerts, loved Lester Young, liked T-Bone Walker and was crazy about Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson. He began on the saxophone when he was in sixth grade, in time also mastering flute, clarinet and oboe. He studied at R.T. Coles High School under the tutelage of Leo H. Davis, a well respected music instructor reported to have taught Charlie Parker. “The way he taught improvisation was to sing the melody in my ear when I soloed so I’d always keep the melody in mind.” Alaadeen debuted as a professional with Davis’ concert band playing e-flat horn when he was 14 and his first major job was playing baritone sax with the great pianist-bandleader Jay McShann. In later years he would rejoin McShann on tenor. He died in 2010. |
