Dr. Carrie Fitzgerald

Dr. Carrie Fitzgerald teaches Psychological Foundations of Education courses in the College of Education, Health Sciences, and Human Services (COEHSHS). Within the COEHSHS, she teaches courses on child development, assessment, and child advocacy; she was one of two faculty members who developed an Advanced Certificate Program in Child Advocacy Studies (CAST) at SUNY Fredonia, and has also partnered with the Zero Abuse Project to develop child maltreatment and advocacy curriculum for medical school faculty. In addition to school counseling, therapeutic intervention, and child welfare, Dr. Fitzgerald’s professional experience includes program evaluation and educational & psychological assessment. Her research focuses on foster care, child maltreatment, trauma-sensitive schools, and the unique needs of children and families. She has presented her research locally, nationally, and internationally, including conferences in China, Uruguay, and the Czech Republic.

Dr. Fitzgerald is on the Fulbright Specialist Roster, and is a member of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect (ISPCAN) and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC). She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Court Appointed Special Advocates of New York (CASANYS) and previously served on the Board of Directors for Chautauqua County Child Advocacy Program.
