SUNY Fredonia will host two ceremonies during its 187th annual Commencement, to be held this Saturday, May 17, in Steele Hall Arena. Laura Morrison broke the 400-meter outdoor school record Friday during the Gator Open at Allegheny College. Her record time of 58.63 seconds was nearly a half-second faster than Rachel McNamara's 59.11 in May of 2004. Morrison finished fourth in the event.
Outstanding academic achievement, combined with solid facilitator and leadership skills, earned Katharine Carney the Student of the Month honors for April by Residence Life. Carney, a senior English major from Rochester, was nominated for the award by English Professor Natalie Gerber, who said Carney has been “outstanding in her academic work.”
Carl H. Lam, a senior from Hamburg, N.Y., who is concluding a banner senior year at SUNY Fredonia, has been chosen to receive the Lanford Presidential Prize, an honor that recognizes a member of each graduating class who has exhibited balanced achievement and exemplified Fredonia’s ideals.
Fredonia has been selected to play in the NCAA women's lacrosse tournament for the second time. The Blue Devils (11-6) will play host to Liberty League champ Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 3 p.m. on Saturday at University Stadium. The Blue Devils made the tournament as an at-large team, just as they did in 2012, when they played host to St. John Fisher.
