New honor society established at Fredonia
The International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma has recognized scholastic excellence in the world’s top business schools since 1913. The society now welcomes the addition of its newest chapter at Fredonia.
Biology's Ferguson continuing research on disease with $250,000 grant from the National Science Foundation
Fredonia Biology Associate Professor Scott Ferguson continues his research, aided by a $250,000 Research in Undergraduate Institutions grant from the National Science Foundation. The funding allows him to conduct the three-year research project, “Genetic Analysis of Gurken Translational Control in Drosophila,” that has the potential to assess how humans develop and are affected by disease.
President Horvath announces commitment to expand college access at White House event
Today, Fredonia President Virginia S. Horvath will join President Obama, the First Lady, and Vice President Biden, along with hundreds of college presidents and other higher education leaders to announce new actions to help more students prepare for and graduate from college.
Early interest strong in upcoming Graduate School Fair
More than 60 graduate and professional programs – representing a variety of industries and disciplines spanning business, education, health/medicine, humanities and science – have already registered to participate in Fredonia’s Graduate School Fair on Thursday, Oct. 16, 4 to 6 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
The evolution continues with new Science Center
Students returning to campus this fall noticed an immediate, unmistakable, transformational change to Fredonia’s campus. In the southeast corner, a brand new, 92,000-square-foot, three-story structure shines in the summer sun. The new Fredonia Science Center, surrounded by a stunning courtyard and connected to Houghton Hall, now hugs the Science Quad.
Brown Bag Series to explore student success
The Fall 2014 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture series begins on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at noon in Williams Center Room S204 with a panel discussing, “The First Six Weeks: The Key to Student Success and Persistence.”
Fredonia appoints two associate provosts
The State University of New York at Fredonia announces the appointments of Dr. Judith Horowitz as associate provost for Graduate Studies, Sponsored Research and Faculty Development, and Dr. Lisa Hunter as associate provost for Curriculum, Assessment and Academic Support. Bill Nye ‘The Science Guy’ to speak this fall
To help celebrate the opening of its new, 92,000-square-foot Science Center, SUNY Fredonia will welcome world-renowned scientist, engineer, comedian, author and inventor Bill Nye “The Science Guy” to campus this fall. He will appear Thursday, Sept. 18, at 3:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall as the keynote speaker for the campus’ annual Convocation Series.
