Public Speaking Contest slated for April 8
Students seeking a venue to sharpen their oratorical skills or those who simply enjoy being captivated by talented speakers are invited to the annual Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at McEwen Hall Room 202. Speakers need to pre-register by Friday, April 4, at 5 p.m. To secure a time slot, contact Bianca Borrelli at borr5458@fredonia.edu or Emma Cruz at cruz2671@fredonia.edu.
Student volunteers to serve for ‘Dining in the Dark’
Volunteers from the SUNY Fredonia Health Professions Club will serve as sighted guides for the upcoming “Dining in the Dark” fundraiser. The dinner will be on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m., at the Chautauqua Suites in Mayville. Guests of “Dining in the Dark” will be immersed in a unique dining experience by eating dinner blindfolded.
Professor James Ivey to portray life of Justice William O. Douglas at Jackson Center
A staged reading of the play, “Mountain – The Journey of Justice Douglas,” will be presented Saturday, March 29 by Department of Theatre and Dance Professor James Ivey and seniors Lindsay Zimmerman and Steve Russell at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown. The event is slated 8 p.m. at the center located at 305 E. 4th St. Prior to the performance will be a reception for SUNY Fredonia alumni at 6 p.m. in the center’s banquet room.
Mock trial on April 1 calls for jury audience
The Fredonia Mock trial team will perform a case on Tuesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204ABC.The demonstration is intended to provide insight on mock trial. Team members will also briefly discuss the kind of work and time commitments that mock trial requires.
Brown Bag Lecture Series presents 'Ethics and Technology' on April 2
The Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series will be presenting, "Ethics and Technology," on Wednesday, April 2, at noon in McEwen Hall Room 202. Speakers will include Bond Benton, assistant professor from the Department of Communication; Jason Cline, a Department of Philosophy student; Andrew Cullison, associate professor from the Department of Philosophy; and Robert Olson, visiting instructor from the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.

Ashgate Publishing House has just published the book, “Conciliarism and Church Law in the Fifteenth Century – Studies on Franciscus Zabarella and the Council of Constance,” by Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus Thomas E. Morrissey.
Natalie Gerber presents at conference in Indianapolis
Associate Professor Natalie Gerber of the Department of English gave two collaborative presentations with composition theorist Peter Ellbow and linguistics graduate-student Hülya Belketin from University of Dusseldorf in Germany at the 2014 Conference on College, Composition, and Communication, in Indianapolis, Ind.
Multicultural film series continues March 28
The SUNY Fredonia multi-cultural “Renga” is hosting a spring film series, titled, “Through Your Eyes: International Diversity in Film.” The five film series will consider many facets of diversity across cultures and nations. Beginning on Friday, Feb. 14, the films will be shown at 7 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 202. Each film will be introduced by a faculty member with expertise in the region or topic.
Young Philosophers Lecture Series returns April 10
Justin Capes, lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Humanities at East Tennessee State University, will be the second guest of the Young Philosophers Lecture Series on Thursday, April 10. Dr. Capes' first lecture will be at 12:30 p.m., and a second at 5 p.m., both in Williams Center Room S204.
Opening reception set for 'Outlaw/ed Bodies' student exhibit at Reed Library
The opening reception for “Outlaw/ed Bodies: Intersecting the Visual, Creative and Critical,” an interdisciplinary student exhibit, will be held on Wednesday, March 26, from 4 to 5 p.m., in the Reed Library exhibit room.
