Two-month energy audit of campus looks for savings

SUNY Fredonia has been awarded $168,000 from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to fund an “energy benchmarking,” or audit, of 24 major buildings with the goal of reducing energy consumption. The engineering firm, CHA, which has conducted more than 120 NYSERDA-funded Benchmarking energy assessments, began the assessment on Monday, Feb. 18.

Workers received Custodial Services Awards for exemplary service

SUNY Fredonia paid tribute to employees who keep the campus among the most attractive across the SUNY system at the 12th annual Custodial Services Awards Recognition Luncheon held on Jan. 24. More than 80 people gathered at the Horizon Room to see nine employees receive Custodial Safety Incentive Awards.

Technology Incubator hosts Certified Lean professional course

As part of a partnership with University at Buffalo’s TCIE (formerly The Center for Industrial Effectiveness), the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator at 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY, will once again host the Certified Lean Professional (CLP) course during spring 2013 and offer three new courses.

Stroke and head injury survivors invited to support group meetings at Youngerman Center

The Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders will be offering support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. in Room W118 Thompson Hall unless otherwise stated. A typical group meeting will include activities to help stroke and head injury survivors use strategies to improve communication skills, provide educational information and an opportunity to socialize and share experiences.

M&T Bank donations support Technology Incubator and Keeper of Dream scholarships

M&T Bank is providing $75,000 over a five-year period to the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator to help cover general operating expenses and giving $20,000 to support of the Keeper of the Dream Scholarship program. The two gifts were arranged with the assistance of Josh Heim, vice president of Government Banking at M&T Bank’s headquarters in Buffalo; and Linda Niedbalski, vice president-branch manager of the M&T Bank office in Fredonia. The $75,000 incubator contribution is among the largest gifts ever made by M&T Bank to the Fredonia College Foundation.

Interactive production of "Robin Hood" opens family theatre series

The Kaleidoscope Family Series at SUNY Fredonia’s Rockefeller Arts Center opens its season with an interactive production of “Robin Hood” on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre. The players of DuffleBag Theatre will take audience members into Sherwood Forest for an unforgettable adventure with a band of merry men (and women).

Tech Incubator Business nominated for best university startups award

The Center for Sports Skills Measurement and Improvement (Center for Sports), a tenant of the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator, has been nominated to be among the “100 Best University Startups” as chosen by the National Council for Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer (NCET2). According to Center for Sports Founder Kevin Morse, his is one of four companies nominated from the Western Region of New York. Of the 195 nominated companies, 100 will be chosen by NCET2 to present in the 2012 Virtual Showcases this month.
