New admissions director named

SUNY Fredonia has appointed Chris Dearth, who has worked in admissions and marketing at a nationally ranked public liberal arts college for the last five years, as its new Director of Admissions.

Theater day camp planned for area children

The SUNY Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance is producing a week-long day camp called “PLAYGROUND” to provide a campus-based cultural experience that reaches out to a small group of children in a unique way. The camp runs from Aug. 20 to Aug. 25.

One of the area’s leading family-owned businesses will be partnering with the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center at the State University of New York at Fredonia to bring the community the finest in family entertainment. Howard Hanna Holt Real Estate, with offices in Mayville and Fredonia and another scheduled to open soon in Westfield, will sponsor the 2007-08 Kaleidoscope Series at Rockefeller Arts Center

Eye-catching sculpture comes to SUNY Fredonia campus

Jumping out from the palette of gray and white concrete and green grass on the SUNY Fredonia campus is a 12-foot tall sculpture of intertwining steel spirals painted in a radiant shade of red. The sculpture is entitled “Popeye” and it is the creation of Brooklyn-based artist John Clement. It is on display on Symphony Circle Rockefeller Arts Center as part of SUNY Fredonia’s “In Sight/On Site” project.

High school students win computer competitions

Approximately 40 students from area high schools participated in the fourth annual computer science competition held May 14 at SUNY Fredonia by the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. The contests were: programming, spreadsheet, web design, internet scavenger hunt and quiz show.

Blue Devils Golf Tournament July 29

The second annual Blue Devils Athletics Golf Tournament will be staged Sunday, July 29, at Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk, N.Y.Deadline for registration is July 21. The tournament is limited to the first 35 teams or 140 golfers. Entry forms are also available at the Athletics website (click on 2007 Golf Tournament, listed under "Other Links").
