Producer, engineer, composer and musician Armand Petri, head of the SUNY Fredonia's Music Business program, was one of 12 people into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame on Oct. 4. Working with artists such as the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, and Sixpence None the Richer, Petri’s accolades include several gold and platinum records, a Dove Award, and song placement in television and film.
The final Arts Council for Wyoming County exhibit of 2012 will feature the work of Cuban-American artist and Distinguished Professor Alberto Rey, marking the first Western New York Hispanic Heritage Festival. The opening reception is Friday, Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Rey, a Distinguished Professor of Visual Arts and New Media at SUNY Fredonia, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1960. He received his political asylum through Mexico and lived briefly in Miami before his family relocated to the small coalmining town of Barnesboro, PA.
Writer, composer and scholar Christopher Shultis will spend Oct. 15, 16, and 17 on campus as the School of Music explores John Cage, who is one of the most unorthodox musicians of the 20th century. Shultis will be performing and lecturing. The presentations are part of the 2012-13 Convocation at SUNY Fredonia.

For the sixth season, Lake Shore Savings has given $10,000 to support the arts in Northern Chautauqua County by becoming the season-wide sponsor for Rockefeller Arts Center. The investment supports such series as Mainstage, Kaleidoscope, and Pops.
Classical guitarist and SUNY Fredonia music ('88) and communication ('83) alumnus, Craig Einhorn will be the featured guest artist in a recital on Friday, Oct.19 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. This event is free and open to the public, supported by the Fredonia Guitar Society.
The SUNY Fredonia School of Music presents an active schedule of ensemble concerts, faculty recitals and guest artists in the month of October, including the Fredonia Wind Quintet, above, which will perform October 9 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
An extensive series of concerts, recitals and lectures will be staged at the School of Music during Homecoming Weekend, Sept. 28-30. The popular Alumni Reunion Jazz Ensemble concert, which features Grammy nominee Niel DePonte, '74, this year, will be staged Friday, 8 p.m., at Rosch Recital Hall.
Women's Student Union and the Women's Studies Program at SUNY Fredonia are co-sponsoring an early version of the annual event, "Women, Rock & Soul," for the pre-homecoming crowd of alumni as well as to promote voter registration for this election season. The event starts at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of Williams Center on Thursday, Sept. 27.
The upcoming PAC play is a touching and humorous study of women who posses the courage, humor, and dignity to rise above the grimmer facts of their existence as wives and mothers in coal mining country.
