The deadline to register for the 22nd annual Fredonia Summer Music Festival is June 1. Set on the beautiful campus of SUNY Fredonia and housed in the university’s School of Music, the Fredonia Summer Music Festival will teach instrumental students from grades 9 through 12 starting Sunday, June 24 and ending with a concert Saturday, June 30, taking advantage of Fredonia's first-rate facilities and world-class teachers.
Helen Williams, a SUNY Fredonia graduate and mother of actress Vanessa Williams, shares the spotlight in an enduring photograph on the front cover of a new biography, “You Have No Idea,” that she helped her famous daughter write. SUNY Fredonia will host a book-signing for both authors on Nov. 10. The widely anticipated book is the first by Vanessa, whose career includes starring roles on “The Right Stuff,” “Ugly Betty” and “Desperate Housewives.
“Guys and Dolls in Concert,” the university’s 21st annual Commencement Eve Pops Concert, will be presented on Friday, May 11 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall. Maestro Glen Cortese will lead the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and a cast of talented student performers in a concert version of this oddball romantic comedy. The Chautauqua Children's Chorale will perform its "Voices of Spring" concert on Friday, May 18 at 7 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
A hands-on workshop on challah baking and candle-making with Lorie Rakov Rudolph, founder of Cooks in Training, will be held Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Newman Center. The series will close with a talk delivered by a Holocaust survivor, who is scheduled to speak Tuesday, May 1 at 12:30 p.m. in Dods Hall Multipurpose Room.
