Nearly 200 artistically gifted high school students from across New York State will gather at SUNY Fredonia to participate in two programs – Choral Studies and Visual Arts – offered by the New York State Summer School for the Arts program.

Roughly 1,500 students, including the largest senior class in SUNY Fredonia’s history, crossed the Steele Hall Arena stage today, receiving congratulations from President Virginia S. Horvath as they were conferred with degrees during the 186th annual Commencement ceremony.
Commencement is quickly approaching and the committee is in need of volunteers to assist with the celebration on Saturday, May 18. Faculty, staff, student and community volunteer hands are most welcome. Three shifts are being offered: 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Morning Ceremony Shift); 1 to 5:30 p.m. (Afternoon Ceremony Shift), and 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (All Day Shift - meals will be provided).
The Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Series concludes on May 1 with a presentation by Ambassador James Foley (B.A., ’79). In his address, “Can an Exceptional Nation Have a Normal Foreign Policy?” he will offer the perspective of nearly 30 years in the foreign service regarding the immense changes in the international landscape that have occurred in that period, and the likely challenges confronting America in the years to come.

The pursuit of wellness will abound for SUNY Fredonia students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding community at the annual Employee Assistance Program’s Wellness Fair on Monday, April 29, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
Over the weekend, SUNY Fredonia’s Relay for Life event raised over $30,000 for the American Cancer Society at the 12-hour walk-a-thon event held in Steele Hall on Saturday on the SUNY Fredonia campus. At the event, over 500 participants and 40 teams walked around the indoor track enjoying performances from students and singing groups.
